The ‘Société du Cheval français’ called now LeTROT was founded in 1864. It is a non-profit association. It is under state supervision that is to say the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance and the Home Ministry. 

Its aim is to increase the trotting races and protect the ‘Trotteur Français’ breed.
Its policy is :
- to ensure the promotion of the ‘Trotteur Français ‘ horse and protect the trotting professionals at the same time. Anti-doping controls for instance have been strengthened over the past years.
- to organize trotting races by establishing racing schedules and harmonize its International racing schedule with other countries.
- to keep the economic balance of the Trotting Industry by offering allocations, granting subsidies and making the promotion of Trotting races and the ‘Trotteur Français’ breed in France and abroad as well (28 countries up to now as South Africa, Algeria, Germany, Austria, Australia Belgium, Canada, China, Croatia, Spain, USA, Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales), Hungaria, Ireland, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Ukraine)

The head office is based in Paris but LeTROT has also 4 racetracks in direct management (Paris-Vincennes, Enghien, Caen and Cabourg) and a training center.
